October, Richmond and Heavy Metal always seem to go hand in hand. The seasons change, and things get a little darker. An evening of aggressive riffs kicked off with Fulci from Caserta Italy, kicking things off with a traditional death metal sound, I only caught a few songs as I came straight from work. Full of Hell next with an extremely straight forward grind/powerviolence hardcore attack. Often ive seen them play a more experimental set, and was anticipating something similar, but I think with this stacked line up they used every minute of their set for a full on assault track after track. Municipal Waste in a hometown setting is always a special thing, they only play locally maybe once or twice a year these days, and they were primed up from being on the road with cannibal corpse. The crowd loved it and they were feeding off their energy, I was worried they may have stole the show. However Cannibal Corpse came heavily prepared, with a semi perfect set list, its hard to call their antics stage theatrics when they are responsible for what you see most bands simply trying to replicate. Clocking a set around an hour it simply didnt seem like time passed, we were all in a headbanging vortex together wanting more.
